Hola!

I have made much progress with my artwork, but it has been a struggle. I completed the fun part, which was my broken Raku pottery set. I mended them back together with epoxy and gold leaf and even though they do not look like the traditional Kintsugi potteries, I believe they still look pretty cool. I did try to use different types of god material such as gold paint and liquid gold leaf, but the way it mixed with the epoxy was not to my liking. Although they are complete, I will later have to go back to fix some areas of the pottery that either were not covered correctly or were not at all.

The main focus of my art project, which is the human figure, is currently my difficulty. I have used 4 containers worth of plaster to create the form of the body and even with that amount, I have not gotten the right amount of relief i originally planned. However, I cannot apply anymore because the body will only become heavier which will cause problems for gluing the form to the canvas. After everything is dried I plan to sand the body so that it is smooth or at least sand it enough for it to look as if it were smooth.

4 years of Ed Obermeyer masterclasses. For 3 years I always sat back and watched others do demos. One my last, forth year I decided to finally give it a try. Who knew that pushing through my anxiety will allow me to finally come up with a background!! I already decided that the base of the background would be a dark red, but it still looked plain. The patterns from last post were interesting and something I wanted to utilize but i did not know how to execute it. Finally, after this masterclass i decided to use Ed's style of painting which is pin-striping. During a critic a classmate suggested to make patterns similar to china, but in a slightly lighter red. I really liked the idea, so I plan to i create my background in this way while also using the patterns from last post as a reference.

I have been thinking about how to install my Raku pieces alongside my painting and the only idea i managed to come up with was to have pedestals surround it. A classmate also brought up the idea of drilling a wooden plank into the bottom side of the canvas so that it sticks out and I could just place the Raku pieces on top of it. Does anybody have any other ideas of ways I could the Raku pieces with my painting?

If you guys have any feedback for me I would love to hear it!

Until next time, adios~

You've made really good progress so far and im excited to see the final product. I am afraid the shelf might take away from the artwork. My suggestion would be to hang them all individually on floating shelves so it doesn't look as clunky as one long shelf would. That way you could also have then around the artwork instead of just under. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Command-4-in-x-3-5-in-Slate-Display-Ledges-2-Pack-HOM23S-2ES/302313528

Link takes you to what i was kina of picturing in my head shelf wise.

I think you did an amazing job with the pottery and adding the gold leaf. And to add on to the idea of displaying the pottery with the canvas is adding a shelf under you piece or even like you said possibly adding a shelf to the bottom on the canvas could work just as well. Also, some advice I would give for the women is definitely stop where you're at with adding the plaster but I would try using water to make the surface smoother (check the plaster to see if mixing it with water would work) and possibly testing glues that will work with sticking the plaster to the canvas. Overall, good job. Proud :)
